What Happens at a Mobile Drug Test Visit, Start to Finish

A walkthrough of a Testr mobile drug test in Los Angeles: booking a 30-minute window, the 4-digit door PIN, the 14-panel read, sealing and results.

Chain-of-custody procedure on every drug test collection CAP-accredited laboratory confirmation by LC-MS/MS Results released only to the account holder, or to a third party they authorize in writing

A mobile drug test works like this: you book a 30-minute window, a certified collector comes to your address in the Los Angeles area, collects a urine specimen, reads a 14-panel screen on the spot and the result is released to your account. If you ordered laboratory confirmation, the sealed specimen goes on to a CAP-accredited laboratory. This is each step of a Testr visit, in order.

Booking: the test, the person, the window

Booking takes about two minutes in the Testr app or on the booking page. You choose one of two tests. The At-Home Rapid Test is a 14-panel urine drug screen read at your door. The Rapid Test with Laboratory Confirmation is the same screen, after which the specimen goes to a CAP-accredited laboratory for quantitative LC-MS/MS confirmation, with results in about 72 hours.

Then you say who is being tested. If it is you, your name goes on the record. If it is someone else, a client, a family member or a dependent, their name goes on the record and the results still come to your account. For anyone under 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present for the entire visit and signs the consent in the minor's place.

Last comes the address and the time. Testr serves the Los Angeles area, and you pick a 30-minute arrival window between 7 AM and 7 PM, any day of the week. The earliest window is 3 hours after you book.

Arrival and the door PIN

Once a collector accepts your order, the app shows their name, their credentials, their vehicle and their position on a live map. Every collector clears a background check before their first visit and holds current CPR certification.

What the neighbors see is a professional with a bag. There are no uniforms, no vehicle markings and nothing to sign for at the door.

When the collector reaches you, your phone shows a 4-digit PIN. The collector has to enter it before the collection can begin. That handshake is the first link in the chain of custody: it proves the collector reached the right person.

The collection and the 14-panel read

The collector collects a urine specimen and temperature-checks it at collection, in your presence. If the person being tested has a valid prescription, they can tell the collector at the visit. When laboratory confirmation is ordered, a valid prescription is accounted for at the laboratory stage.

The specimen is read on a 14-panel cassette after a set development time. The panels are AMP, MET, THC, COC, MOR (opiates), OXY, MTD, BZO, BUP, BAR, MDMA, PCP, FEN and EtG, the alcohol metabolite. Each panel is recorded as negative or presumptive positive against its screening cutoff. Three more strips check the specimen itself, pH, oxidants and creatinine, which is how dilution and adulteration show up. The collector records the read exactly as it appears and does not interpret it.

Each panel's cutoff and detection window are on the 14-panel drug test page, the cassette codes are decoded on the abbreviations page, and the result words are explained in How to read a Testr result.

Sealing, the laboratory and the 2-hour window

On every visit, the specimen is sealed with tamper-evident tape and the seal is photographed before it leaves the room. The donor and the collector sign the record, and a guardian signs for anyone under 18. One custody code ties the specimen, the report and any laboratory result together.

If you booked the Rapid Test with Laboratory Confirmation, the sealed specimen travels to a CAP-accredited laboratory and is tested by LC-MS/MS, which identifies the specific compound and reports a measured level. The confirmation menu covers 81 substances, many of which no rapid panel screens for, and results come back in about 72 hours.

If you booked the At-Home Rapid Test and want the laboratory behind it after seeing the read, you can upgrade in the app within 2 hours of collection. That is not a scheduling rule but the time the sealed specimen remains viable, so the laboratory tests the same specimen that was read at your door.

Where the result goes

The rapid read is released to the account that booked the visit, in the Testr app or in your account on the site, with the custody code, the signatures and the sealed-specimen photos. A laboratory result, when there is one, appears alongside it under the same code. You can download a PDF record whenever you choose and lock the app behind Face ID. The collector sees the result only while the visit is under way and cannot share or download records afterwards.

Testr runs non-DOT tests only. See workplace drug testing, the pages for parents and professionals, and EtG alcohol testing, one of the 14 panels.

Questions people ask

How fast can a collector get to me?

The earliest 30-minute window is 3 hours after you book, between 7 AM and 7 PM, seven days a week. Details are on the same-day page.

Can I book a visit for someone else?

Yes. Their name goes on the record and the results come to your account. Anyone under 18 needs a parent or legal guardian present for the whole visit.

Is it a urine test?

Yes. Every Testr visit is a urine drug test that screens the same 14 panels, plus pH, oxidant and creatinine checks.

Can I add laboratory confirmation after the rapid read?

Yes, in the app, within 2 hours of collection. After that the specimen is no longer viable for confirmation and a new collection would be needed.

Who sees the result?

The account holder. The collector sees it only while the visit is under way, and nobody else is sent a copy unless you share it.

A collector can be at your door in as little as 3 hours, 7 AM to 7 PM, seven days a week. Book a visit when you are ready.
