Do Mushrooms (Shrooms) Show Up on a Urine Drug Test?

Updated October 14, 2026

Psilocybin, the compound in so-called magic mushrooms, is not one of the 14 panels on a standard rapid drug screen. Its metabolite, psilocin, is on the laboratory's 81-substance confirmation menu, so it is found only when laboratory confirmation is ordered.

On the laboratory's menu it appears under Psychedelics, as Psilocin (psilocybin metabolite), alongside LSD.

Are shrooms on the 14-panel test?

No. The clinical cassette read at every Testr visit screens 14 panels, and psilocybin is not one of them. A standard rapid read will not report mushrooms as positive or as negative; the panel simply is not there. That is the honest answer to "do shrooms show up on a drug test", and it is the same answer for most rapid urine screens sold or used anywhere.

What the 14 panels do cover is worth knowing before you decide the question is settled. Products sold as one thing regularly contain another; pills sold as MDMA frequently contain other substances, so a broader screen matters more than the label on the pill.

Does probation test for shrooms?

A routine probation, workplace or school panel is assembled from the common panels, and psilocybin is not one of them, so a standard screen does not look for it. A court, a probation officer or a monitoring program can order an expanded laboratory panel instead, and psilocin is on the 81-substance confirmation menu at the laboratory Testr uses, so the honest answer is: only when the order asks for it. Testr cannot say what another program's panel includes; ask whoever ordered the test.

Is psilocybin on a 5-panel, 10-panel or 12-panel test?

No. The number in a 5-panel, 10-panel or 12-panel test counts which of the common panels a cup carries, and psilocybin is not on any standard cup at any of those sizes. Testr's 14-panel cassette does not carry it either. Only laboratory analysis that specifically targets psilocin finds it. The difference between a 5-panel, 10-panel and 14-panel drug test is covered on the blog.

What the laboratory can confirm

Laboratory confirmation cutoff: psilocin (psilocybin metabolite) at 10 ng/mL, by LC-MS/MS, in urine.

The CAP-accredited laboratory Testr uses confirms an 81-substance menu, and psilocin is on it, under Psychedelics, next to LSD at 2 ng/mL. The body converts psilocybin to psilocin, which is why the laboratory looks for the metabolite rather than the parent compound, and why its report shows a measured level of psilocin rather than a line that says "mushrooms".

None of this happens on the rapid read alone. Psilocin is looked for only when the order includes laboratory confirmation: pick the Rapid Test with Laboratory Confirmation at booking, or add confirmation to an At-Home Rapid Test from the app within 2 hours of collection, before the specimen stops being viable. The laboratory's report follows in about 72 hours. Every laboratory report goes to a Medical Review Officer (MRO), a physician who reviews laboratory-confirmed results and accounts for valid prescriptions before the report is released.

What about a detection window?

There is no number on this page, on purpose. The detection windows Testr publishes are for the 14 screened panels, each next to the cutoff the on-site cassette uses, and psilocin is not one of those. What a reviewing professional gets for psilocin is the measured level in the specimen and the date it was collected.

What a standard drug test does screen for

Each panel on a Testr report is printed as an abbreviation. Every one has its own page with what it screens for, how long it stays detectable in urine, and the cutoff: AMP (Amphetamine), MET (Methamphetamine), THC (Cannabis / Marijuana), COC (Cocaine), MOR (Morphine / Opiates), OXY (Oxycodone), MTD (Methadone), BZO (Benzodiazepines), BUP (Buprenorphine / Suboxone), BAR (Barbiturates), MDMA (Ecstasy / MDMA), PCP (Phencyclidine), FEN (Fentanyl), ETG (Alcohol metabolite). Or start at the 14-panel test, explained.

How Testr tests for it

The visit is the same one every Testr client gets: a certified collector at your home or office anywhere in the Los Angeles area, 7 AM to 7 PM, seven days a week, with the earliest window 3 hours after you book. The collector verifies identity at the door with a PIN, checks specimen temperature, reads the 14-panel cassette on the spot, and seals the specimen under a chain-of-custody code for the trip to the laboratory. Results go to the ordering account and nowhere else, unless the account holder authorizes a release in writing. With that consent, the laboratory report can go directly to a named third party.

Questions about mushrooms and drug tests

Do mushrooms show up on a standard drug test?

Not on a 14-panel rapid screen. The cassette read at a Testr visit has no psilocybin panel, so a standard rapid read will not report mushrooms, positive or negative.

Can any drug test detect psilocybin?

Yes, by laboratory analysis. The CAP-accredited laboratory Testr uses lists psilocin, the metabolite of psilocybin, on its 81-substance confirmation menu at a 10 ng/mL cutoff, measured by LC-MS/MS in urine.

Which Testr test finds psilocybin?

The Rapid Test with Laboratory Confirmation. The 14-panel read still happens on site, then the sealed specimen goes to the laboratory for confirmation against its full menu, with results in about 72 hours. Every laboratory report is reviewed by a Medical Review Officer (MRO), a physician who reviews laboratory-confirmed results and accounts for valid prescriptions before the report is released. An At-Home Rapid Test can be upgraded from the app within 2 hours of collection.

What does the 14-panel test screen for instead?

Amphetamines, methamphetamine, THC, cocaine, opiates, oxycodone, methadone, benzodiazepines, buprenorphine, barbiturates, MDMA, PCP, fentanyl and EtG (the alcohol metabolite), plus creatinine, oxidant and pH checks for dilution and adulteration.

Do shrooms show up on a urine test?

Not on a rapid urine cup: the 14-panel cassette has no psilocybin strip. A urine specimen sent for laboratory confirmation is different. The CAP-accredited laboratory measures psilocin in urine at a 10 ng/mL cutoff, so a laboratory report can show it when the order includes confirmation.
