How long does MDMA stay in your system?

What does a positive on the MDMA (Ecstasy) drug test panel mean?
The on-site read is a drug screen. It reports positive or negative against the screening cutoff, not a measured level. Laboratory confirmation is what produces a number: a CAP-accredited laboratory quantifies the specimen by LC-MS/MS and reports measured levels, in about 72 hours. Every laboratory report goes to a Medical Review Officer (MRO), a physician who reviews laboratory-confirmed results and accounts for valid prescriptions before the report is released. Ecstasy, molly and the MDMA panel
MDMA is sold under two main names. Ecstasy usually means a pressed pill, often stamped with a logo; molly is sold as a powder or in capsules, often with a claim of purity. To the test they are the same question, because the panel looks for MDMA itself at 500 ng/mL. What the name on the bag cannot promise is what is actually inside it.
When the pill holds something else
A product sold as molly that contains methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl or PCP can read on those panels from the same specimen while the MDMA line stays negative, which is the practical case for reading all 14 at once. Some compounds have no rapid panel at all. The laboratory confirmation menu lists three synthetic stimulants, MDPV, mephedrone and methylone, at 10 ng/mL each, and ketamine at 10 ng/mL, so a laboratory report can name substances the cassette never looks for.
MDMA, MDA and the laboratory
Laboratory confirmation measures MDMA and MDA, a closely related drug that the body also makes from MDMA, at 100 ng/mL each, by LC-MS/MS. MDMA has its own panel on the cassette rather than relying on the amphetamine strip, so the MDMA result does not depend on how an amphetamine screen happens to respond to it. A Testr report prints this line as MDMA, and the laboratory report lists the two compounds separately.
What the MDMA line cannot tell you
A positive MDMA line says MDMA reached 500 ng/mL in the specimen. It cannot say whether it came from a pressed pill or a capsule of powder, how many doses were taken, or what else the product held; the other 13 lines and the laboratory answer that last question. A negative MDMA line means only that MDMA stayed under the cutoff. It says nothing about the other substances a pill sold as ecstasy may have contained, which is why the rest of the report deserves the same attention as this line.
